Avalon expands Europe with three new Cruise & Tour journeys

Avalon Waterways has unveiled three new Cruise & Tour itineraries for 2027, combining guided land touring with river cruising to help travellers experience more of Europe in a single seamless holiday.

Developed in partnership with sister brand Globus, the new itineraries blend expertly guided land journeys with Avalon’s premium river cruise experience, offering travellers the opportunity to explore multiple countries without managing the logistics themselves.

Growing demand for multi-country journeys

The new itineraries reflect increasing demand from travellers seeking to maximise long-haul travel by combining several destinations and cultures within one trip.

Each Cruise & Tour itinerary includes a Globus Tour Director and local guides on land, paired with Avalon’s river cruising experience, including Panorama Suites and Avalon Choice excursions.

“Travelling across multiple countries is one of the most rewarding things you can do – and one of the most complicated to plan,” said Pam Hoffee, President of Avalon Waterways.

“That’s exactly what a Cruise & Tour itinerary does brilliantly. Globus handles every transfer, every hotel and every detail on land while Avalon takes care of everything on the river.”

Three new itineraries for 2027

The new additions bring Avalon’s Cruise & Tour collection to seven itineraries and include:

Essential Britain & Ireland with Romantic Rhine

This 17-day itinerary spans six countries, combining the historic cities and landscapes of Britain and Ireland with a Rhine River cruise through Germany and the Netherlands. Highlights include Edinburgh, Ireland’s countryside, medieval towns and the Rhine Gorge.

The Best of Spain with Paris & Normandy

Spanning 16 days across Spain and France, the journey begins with iconic destinations such as Madrid and Barcelona before transitioning to a Seine River cruise featuring Normandy’s historic coastline, Rouen and Paris.

Italian Vista with Romantic Rhine and Lucerne

This 17-day itinerary visits five countries and combines Italy’s most famous cities with a stay in Switzerland’s Lucerne before a Rhine River cruise through Germany, France and the Netherlands. Highlights include Rome, Venice, Lake Como, Strasbourg and Amsterdam.

Combining land and river experiences

Avalon said the itineraries are designed to give travellers the benefits of both touring and river cruising, while maintaining flexibility through optional excursions and free time.

“By combining the world’s leader in land travel with top-rated river cruises in one Cruise & Tour itinerary, travellers can experience Europe’s most iconic destinations in a bigger, richer and more effortless way,” Hoffee said.
