Murray River Paddlesteamers has confirmed that three-night cruises aboard the historic PS Emmylou will become a permanent part of its cruise program following strong demand for the shorter Murray River experience.
Originally introduced as a temporary offering ahead of the launch of the company’s new flagship, PS Australian Star, later this year, the shorter sailings have proven so popular they will now continue indefinitely from Echuca.
Travelmarvel will continue to charter PS Emmylou for its weekly four-night Murray River itineraries.
Demand drives permanent addition
The decision follows growing interest in shorter river cruise experiences, with travellers seeking accessible and immersive Australian cruising options.
PS Emmylou, powered by a restored 1906 steam engine, is one of the Murray River’s most recognisable vessels and is remembered by many Australians for its appearance in the popular television mini-series All the Rivers Run.
The vessel offers ensuite accommodation, air-conditioning, Wi-Fi and access to traditional timber decks, while itineraries feature visits to wineries, historic homesteads, Indigenous heritage sites and riverside communities.
Savings available through August
To celebrate the move, Murray River Paddlesteamers is offering savings of $400 per person on selected three-night departures operating until 31 August 2026.
The promotion also includes complimentary V/Line rail transfers between Melbourne and Echuca, while solo travellers can take advantage of a waived single supplement.
With the discount applied, fares start from $1,600 per person twin share or solo.
Classic Murray River experience
The three-night cruises depart every Saturday from Echuca and include all onboard meals, daily shore excursions, selected beer and wine with dinner, soft drinks, bottled water and coach transfers during the voyage.
A highlight of the itinerary is a campfire dinner under the stars, while overnight moorings in secluded bush settings offer guests a deeper connection to the river environment.
The company said the permanent addition reflects the growing appeal of short-break cruising experiences within Australia.
