Japan has become one of MSC Cruises’ fastest-growing destinations for Australian and New Zealand travellers, with bookings for its Japan itineraries increasing by more than 50 per cent year-on-year.
The cruise line said demand continues to accelerate, with forward bookings for 2027 departures already tracking well ahead of the same period last year.
Japan demand continues to climb

Katrina McAlpine, Managing Director Australia and New Zealand for the MSC Group Cruise Division, said the surge reflects growing interest in destination-rich cruises closer to home.
“We’ve seen bookings for our Japan itineraries grow by more than 50 per cent year on year, highlighting the increasing appetite among Australian and New Zealand travellers for immersive cultural experiences closer to home,” McAlpine said.
“Japan offers an incredible combination of culture, cuisine, history and natural beauty. Australians are increasingly choosing to cruise with MSC to conveniently experience multiple destinations in a single trip.”
Tokyo round-trip leads the way

The most popular itinerary among Australian and New Zealand guests is MSC Bellissima’s nine-night round-trip sailing from Tokyo.
The voyage calls at Tokyo, Hiroshima, Kagoshima, Gangjeong in South Korea, Sasebo and Kobe, combining some of Japan’s best-known cities with lesser-visited regional ports.
MSC Cruises said the itinerary appeals to travellers seeking cultural immersion alongside the convenience of unpacking once while exploring multiple destinations.
International cruising with Japanese flavour

MSC Bellissima combines European-style cruising with immersive Japanese itineraries, offering international dining, live entertainment and multilingual service.
The ship also features family-friendly facilities including dedicated kids’ clubs, wellness amenities and the exclusive MSC Yacht Club for guests seeking a premium all-inclusive experience.
MSC Cruises said its Best Holiday Ever program, featuring competitive fares, reduced deposits and flexible booking options, continues to resonate with Australian and New Zealand travellers planning future holidays.
