Emerald Cruises has officially welcomed Emerald Astra to its growing river cruise fleet, with leading Australian travel advisor Toni Lanotte-Day named godmother during a christening ceremony in Amsterdam.
The launch of the new Star-Ship marks another milestone for Scenic Group as it continues expanding its European river cruise operations across the Rhine, Main and Danube rivers.
Travel advisor honoured at naming ceremony
Lanotte-Day, a well-known travel industry entrepreneur and advisor, was selected as godmother in recognition of her long-standing support of the brand and the vital role travel advisors play in driving cruise sales.
Scenic Group Founder and Chairman Glen Moroney said the appointment reflects the importance of the trade to the company’s continued growth.
“Naming Toni as godmother recognises the role travel advisors have played in building Scenic Group and the role they will continue to play in shaping our future,” he said.
Lanotte-Day said the honour extended beyond her own achievements.
“In maritime tradition, being a godmother represents luck, protection and prosperous journeys ahead,” she said.
“But I also see it as representing the travel advisors who believe in this product and help bring it to life for their clients.”
Fleet expansion continues
Emerald Astra becomes the 10th Star-Ship in the Emerald Cruises river fleet and arrives during a significant growth phase for Scenic Group, which celebrates its 40th anniversary in 2026.
The Australian-founded company recently launched luxury yacht Emerald Kaia and has several new vessels scheduled to enter service over the coming years, including Emerald Raiya in 2027, Emerald Lumi in 2027 and Emerald Xara in 2028.
Emerald Lumi will mark the brand’s debut on France’s Seine River, while Emerald Xara is expected to operate new itineraries across Asia, Australia and the South Pacific.

The christening also highlights Scenic Group’s continued investment in shipbuilding through its in-house division, MKM Yachts, which oversees the design and construction of the company’s vessels.
