Viking has taken delivery of the Viking Eldir, the newest addition to its fleet of Viking Longships, further expanding the company’s European river cruise offering.
New longship joins Europe river itineraries
Built at Meyer’s Neptun Werft shipyard in Rostock-Warnemünde, Germany, the Viking Eldir will operate on the Rhine, Main and Danube rivers.
The 190-guest ship joins Viking’s growing fleet of sister ships and will sail a range of the company’s popular European itineraries.
Torstein Hagen, Chairman and CEO of Viking, said the new vessel strengthens the company’s ability to bring guests closer to destinations along Europe’s major rivers.
He said the addition of the Viking Eldir will allow the cruise line to welcome more travellers exploring Europe by river.
Scandinavian design and modern features
The Viking Eldir accommodates 190 guests across 95 staterooms and features the brand’s signature Scandinavian design.
The ship includes several of Viking’s well-known design innovations, including a space-saving square bow, three full decks, an indoor-outdoor Aquavit Terrace, an asymmetric corridor and two-room suites.
The vessel will operate on itineraries such as Rhine Getaway, Grand European Tour, Passage to Eastern Europe, European Sojourn and Christmas on the Rhine.
Continued fleet expansion
Viking continues to pursue long-term fleet expansion as part of its strategy to maintain a leadership position in experiential travel.
The company expects to take delivery of 22 additional river ships by 2028, along with 10 ocean ships and two expedition ships by 2031.
