Viking has officially taken delivery of its newest ocean ship, Viking Mira, marking another milestone in the cruise line’s continued fleet expansion and future-focused growth strategy.
The delivery ceremony took place on 27 May 2026 at Fincantieri’s shipyard in Ancona, Italy, where the 998-guest vessel was formally handed over to the company.
Viking Mira joins the line’s growing fleet of small ocean ships and will spend her inaugural season sailing itineraries across the Mediterranean and Northern Europe.
Viking President and CEO Leah Talactac said the new addition would create even more opportunities for guests seeking destination-focused travel experiences.
“We are delighted to welcome the Viking Mira to our elegant fleet of small sister ships,” Talactac said.
“Our guests are curious travellers, and the arrival of a new ship allows us to offer them even more opportunities to explore the world in Viking comfort.”
Future-ready ship design
Like its sister ships, Viking Mira features 499 staterooms and has been designed as a small ship experience focused on immersive travel and destination exploration.
Viking also confirmed the ship has been built with future retrofitting capabilities in mind as the company advances towards next-generation propulsion technology.
The cruise line’s upcoming vessel, Viking Libra, currently under construction at the same Fincantieri shipyard, is set to become the world’s first hydrogen-powered cruise ship capable of operating with zero emissions when delivered in November 2026.
A second hydrogen-powered vessel, Viking Astrea, is scheduled to join the fleet in 2027.
Fleet expansion continues
Viking said it remains committed to its long-term expansion strategy across river, ocean and expedition cruising.
According to the company’s current orderbook, Viking expects to take delivery of:
- 24 additional river ships by 2028
- Nine additional ocean ships by 2031
- Two additional expedition ships by 2031
By 2031, the company expects to operate a combined fleet of 26 ocean and expedition ships alongside 114 river vessels.
Continued industry recognition
Viking continues to receive strong recognition across the global cruise sector, recently maintaining its position as the top-ranked ocean and river cruise line in the 2025 Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards.
The company currently operates itineraries across all seven continents, with a focus on culturally immersive experiences for travellers interested in history, science, cuisine and destination-led travel.
