Celestyal has confirmed both Celestyal Discovery and Celestyal Journey have safely completed transit through the Strait of Hormuz, underscoring the line’s operational leadership during a period of heightened sensitivity in the region.
The cruise line said the successful passages marked a major milestone for the business and provided reassurance for guests and travel partners ahead of its summer deployment in the Mediterranean.
Celestyal Discovery first to depart
On 17 April 2026, Celestyal Discovery, under the command of Captain Nikolaos Vasileiou, became the first cruise ship to depart the Arabian Gulf using a carefully coordinated voyage plan developed with regional authorities and maritime security teams.
Celestyal said the sailing established a safe and proven route through the Strait of Hormuz, creating a corridor that could then be used by other cruise operators leaving the region.
Celestyal Journey follows established corridor

Building on that movement, Celestyal Journey transited the same passage on 18 April 2026 under the command of Captain Angelos Vasilakos.
The vessel also led a broader convoy of cruise ships departing the region via the established route, highlighting the importance of coordinated planning and close communication with authorities and security stakeholders.
Safety remained top priority
Celestyal said safety remained the company’s overriding focus throughout the operation, with both captains, onboard teams and shoreside staff playing a critical role in ensuring the successful transit of the two ships.
The company also acknowledged the support of regional authorities and partners, saying their cooperation helped deliver a measured and responsible approach for the wider cruise sector.
Mediterranean season to begin as planned
Following their safe passage, both Celestyal Discovery and Celestyal Journey are now repositioning to the Mediterranean, where they are scheduled to begin the summer season as planned.
Celestyal said all future sailings currently on sale will operate as scheduled, providing continuity and confidence for both guests and trade partners.
