Aurora Expeditions has announced that former NASA astronaut Dr Sandra H. Magnus will join its 2026 Jewels of the Arctic: Greenland Solar Eclipse voyage, offering guests a rare opportunity to travel with a pioneering space explorer on an unforgettable polar adventure.
With over 150 days spent in space, including missions aboard the International Space Station and NASA’s final space shuttle flight, Dr Magnus brings a unique perspective to exploration. A seasoned aerospace engineer and advocate for scientific discovery, she will host lectures and guided discussions onboard, offering insights into the connections between space and the polar regions.

A rare eclipse in an extraordinary setting
Departing 2 August 2026, the 15-day Jewels of the Arctic expedition explores the pristine landscapes of Svalbard and East Greenland. Highlights include a rare chance to witness a solar eclipse in one of the world’s most remote regions, along with immersive wildlife and cultural encounters.
Travellers will sail through the vast Scoresbysund fjord system, visit the Inuit community of Ittoqqortoormiit, and search for polar bears, musk oxen and Arctic foxes amid icy tundra and towering cliffs. Zodiac cruises along glacial fronts and fjords promise breathtaking views, especially during the eclipse when the sky darkens in dramatic contrast to the ice-covered scenery.
