Luxury Gold and Uniworld go big on Egypt mega famil

Luxury Gold and Uniworld are taking their trade support to a new level, launching a dedicated Mega Famil to Egypt exclusively for Australian and New Zealand agents — with 100 places on offer and the chance for one lucky winner to secure a free spot for two.

Set to run from 5–15 September 2026, the ambitious trade initiative will see both Uniworld ships on the Nile, River Tosca and S.S. Sphinx, chartered exclusively for the Australian and New Zealand market. It marks a major investment in a destination that continues to surge in popularity, with Uniworld saying Egypt has been its fastest-growing market for the past three years. The day-by-day itinerary can be found here.

Alice Ager, Managing Director Australia/NZ for Uniworld Boutique River Cruises, said the scale of the famil reflects both strong demand and strong trade enthusiasm.

“Egypt has been our fastest growing destination now for three years — sales from Australia and NZ are up another 200 per cent this year and even more for next year,” Ager said.

“We had talked about hosting a famil to Egypt for ages, but then when we ran the numbers we figured, if we are going to do it, we should go big and take the entire ship. Then somehow that became even bigger to taking our two ships at once. So this has gone from a group of 20 to a group of 100.”

A major trade push into a booming destination

For Ager, Egypt was the natural choice for a large-scale trade campaign.

“Egypt is always the right destination,” she said, describing the country as a place that reveals something new with every visit.

That enthusiasm is clearly shared by the trade. Agents have been drawn not only to Egypt’s rich history and cultural depth, but also to its strength as a premium and luxury product — particularly when paired with expert guiding and high-end river cruising on the Nile.

Ager said the escorted element is a major part of the appeal.

“When you are only in Egypt for a few weeks, you just need to have an expert with you the entire way. They will unlock all the secrets, the mysteries, and that understanding of the why and the how all the things exist is what deepens your connection to the history.”

She added that travelling with an Egyptologist transforms the guest experience from sightseeing into storytelling, giving agents a much deeper appreciation of the destination and a stronger platform from which to sell it.

What agents can expect on the mega famil

The Cairo return itinerary includes a seven-night Nile cruise, three nights’ accommodation in Cairo, return domestic flights between Cairo and Luxor, and a visit to the Grand Egyptian Museum, which is now open to visitors.

The journey will also be escorted by professional Egyptologists throughout, with agents experiencing the same inclusions and touring elements as paying guests.

Among the expected highlights are the Valley of the Kings, Queen Hatshepsut’s Temple, Luxor Temple, and time in Aswan — a destination Ager described as especially memorable.

“We have high tea at the Old Cataract Hotel watching the sunset over Elephantine Island while the gentle feluccas quietly sail by,” she said.

“It is a very special place — one I can’t wait to visit again.”

The itinerary also gives agents a first-hand look at the product direction for both brands, with Ager confirming that “Splendours of Egypt and the Nile” will become a shared Uniworld and Luxury Gold itinerary from 2027.

“There are so many synergies between Uniworld and Luxury Gold, we use the same guides, the same ships, the same hotels — combining our cruises and tours together makes so much sense,” she said.

Confidence, conversion and the power of first-hand experience

For the Uniworld team, the famil is about far more than inspiration. It is also about conversion.

Ager said first-hand product experience remains one of the most powerful sales tools in the trade.

“Agents will tell you how their confidence soars once they have experienced something first hand,” she said. “We have great ROI on our famils generally — we expect the same this time too.”

The campaign also sends a clear message about Uniworld’s commitment to the Australia and New Zealand market, with the company underwriting much of the experience while asking agents to contribute only a nominal participation fee.

At the same time, it is leaning into a sales-led incentive, encouraging agents to register all new Luxury Gold and Uniworld bookings made by 30 June for the chance to win a free cabin for two on the famil.

Ager said the response had already been strong.

“We’ve had over 200 agents register their interest so far, so there will be some disappointment I am sure — we might have to do it all again next year so everyone gets a go.”

Keeping Egypt front of mind

While broader Middle East headlines continue to dominate news cycles, Ager said Uniworld remains confident in Egypt as a sellable and safe destination for its guests, noting that Australia’s Smartraveller advice for Egypt continues to be “Exercise a high degree of caution”.

For Ager, the bigger ambition is simple: to make sure Egypt stays firmly on agents’ radar.

“I want our agents to think of Uniworld when they think of Egypt,” she said. “But mostly I want them to fall in love with Egypt as deeply as I have. I want them to put Egypt on all their clients’ travel lists. It’s just amazing.”
