Windstar completes fleet refurbishment

There are few ships that can claim to have reshaped the way we travel and cruise, but sail-driven Wind Star is one of them.

Four decades after pioneering modern sailing cruises, the 148-guest yacht has emerged from a full transformation, ready to chart a new course through some of the world’s most sought-after destinations.

Now relaunched as the first of Windstar’s Wind Class fleet to complete its full refurbishment, Wind Star blends the romance of traditional sailing with a refreshed, contemporary onboard experience.

A new chapter at sea

Originally debuting 40 years ago, Wind Star introduced travellers to a more intimate style of cruising, defined by real sails, smaller guest numbers and a relaxed, yacht-like atmosphere.

This latest transformation is part of Windstar’s multi-year Setting Sails initiative, designed to modernise the fleet while preserving the character that made it so distinctive. The result is a thoughtful redesign that enhances comfort, style and flow across the ship without losing its signature charm.

From reimagined social spaces to upgraded technology, every detail has been refined to create what Windstar describes as a true ‘home at sea’.

Wind Star’s elevated onboard experience

At the heart of the refurbishment is a complete upgrade of the onboard experience. Dining venues have been redesigned to feel more contemporary and inviting, with Amphora, the yacht’s signature restaurant, now featuring updated finishes, custom seating and a more refined atmosphere.

The Veranda has also been refreshed, with a redesigned buffet layout that makes dining more seamless and relaxed.

In the staterooms, subtle upgrades make a noticeable difference. New upholstered headboards, integrated lighting and bedside charging add comfort and convenience, while earlier enhancements introduced upgraded technology, improved connectivity and refreshed suite spaces.

Across the yacht, guests will also notice enhanced public areas, from the Compass Rose Lounge to the pool deck, alongside a revitalised spa and fitness centre. Carefully curated artwork, improved lighting and new teak decking complete the transformation.

Wind Star sails the Mediterranean and South Pacific

With her refurbishment complete, Wind Star is returning to the destinations that have long defined Windstar’s appeal.

In the Mediterranean, spring sailings from Barcelona offer a journey through culture, cuisine and coastal beauty. Come summer, the yacht will explore the Greek Isles on seven-night roundtrip voyages from Athens, with the advantage of docking close to the heart of each destination.

Looking ahead, Wind Star will expand into Tahiti in 2027, joining Star Breeze to offer year-round sailings in French Polynesia. The popular seven-day Dreams of Tahiti itinerary will give travellers more opportunities to explore the region in an intimate, yacht-style setting.

A legacy that continues

The transformation of Wind Star marks more than a refurbishment. It is a continuation of a legacy that began 40 years ago and helped define small-ship cruising as we know it today.

As Windstar continues to evolve its fleet, with further enhancements planned for Wind Surf and Wind Spirit through to 2027, the focus remains on delivering immersive, destination-rich experiences in a setting that feels both personal and refined.

For travellers seeking a more relaxed, intimate way to explore the world’s coastlines, Wind Star’s next chapter offers a compelling reason to return to the sea.
