Aurora Expeditions has launched a new Arctic photography expedition for 2027, capitalising on strong demand for its sold-out Antarctica “Through the Lens” sailing, and expanding its niche product offering for the expedition cruise market.
The new 11-day Iceland and East Greenland: Through the Lens voyage will depart 31 July 2027 aboard Sylvia Earle, targeting travellers seeking immersive, photography-led experiences in remote polar regions.
Voyage targets growing demand for photography expeditions
The launch reflects increasing demand for specialist expedition cruises, particularly among high-yield travellers looking for skills-based and experiential itineraries beyond traditional sightseeing.
Aurora Expeditions is positioning the voyage around extended time off-ship, small group exploration and access to less-visited locations, supported by onboard workshops and field guidance from professional photographers.
For the Australian trade, the product offers a premium, differentiated sell in the competitive polar segment, with pricing from AUD $22,776 per person twin share placing it firmly in the high-end expedition category.
Strong Australian photography talent onboard
The cruise line has confirmed a line-up of four photographers, including prominent Australian names Scott Portelli and Peter Eastway, alongside David Vargas and Wayne Sorensen.
The experts will deliver onboard workshops, image reviews and in-field coaching, adding a strong educational component that supports Aurora’s broader strategy of combining exploration with enrichment.
This approach aligns with growing consumer interest in purpose-driven travel, where guests can develop skills while engaging with remote environments.
Arctic deployment highlights remote destinations
The itinerary focuses on East Greenland’s Scoresby Sund, the world’s largest fjord system, alongside Iceland’s Westfjords, offering a mix of Arctic landscapes and wildlife encounters.
Guests will access the region via Zodiac excursions and guided landings designed to maximise time ashore, with opportunities to photograph whales, seabirds and musk oxen.
