Port Douglas-based private charter operator Monsoon Reef Charters has returned its flagship vessel, MV Monsoon, to service following an extensive refurbishment program focused on safety, reliability and guest experience.
The vessel has spent the past two months in dry dock undergoing a series of maintenance works, repairs and upgrades designed to ensure it continues to deliver premium private charter experiences on the northern Great Barrier Reef.
Major upgrades completed
Among the improvements completed during the refit are a new duckboard, a new deck, a freshly painted hull and extensive mechanical servicing.
The refurbishment also included comprehensive maintenance works throughout the vessel to enhance operational performance and longevity.
Monsoon Reef Charters owner Agatha said the investment was primarily focused on maintaining the highest standards of safety and reliability.
“While the cosmetic improvements are certainly exciting, our primary focus throughout this period has been safety, reliability and compliance,” she said.
“Monsoon now exceeds the required commercial vessel standards, and we are incredibly proud of the investment made to ensure she remains one of the safest and most reliable private charter vessels operating from Port Douglas.”
Additional crew boost safety standards
As part of the vessel’s return to service, all charters will now operate with three crew members onboard, each holding current First Aid certification.
The additional crew member is designed to strengthen onboard service levels while enhancing safety management and guest supervision throughout each charter.
According to the company, the move reflects its ongoing commitment to delivering a premium and safe experience for guests exploring the Great Barrier Reef.
Focus remains on tailored reef experiences
Operating from Port Douglas, MV Monsoon specialises in private charter experiences to the northern Great Barrier Reef, offering customised itineraries and personalised service.
The vessel’s return comes ahead of the peak winter travel season, with the company now actively taking bookings following the completion of the refurbishment program.
