PONANT EXPLORATIONS has added two new spring 2027 Greenland departures in partnership with polar experts SEDNA, with fares starting from AU$27,310 per person.
Departures built around Inuit communities
The sailings build on the program’s 2025 debut and centre on genuine engagement with Greenlandic communities rather than observation from a distance. Activities have been co-designed with residents of the village of Kullorsuaq and are led by Greenlanders themselves, covering dog sledding, kayaking, ice fishing, ski touring with a pulka and overnight stays in traditional homes.
By advance booking, guests can also spend a night in a traditional Inuit tent on the sacred site of Nunanutaat, reached by dogsled, or camp on the pack ice at a scientific station alongside researchers in marine biology, glaciology and climatology. Certain optional experiences carry an additional cost.
SEDNA co-founder Nicolas Dubreuil, a polar explorer and member of The Explorers Club, has spent more than 30 years working with Inuit communities and designed the program in close collaboration with Kullorsuaq residents. Reflecting on the 2025 edition, he said,
“These meetings and activities are the initiative of the Greenlanders, who are fully involved in sharing their way of life. They challenged themselves and discovered the true spirit of this wonderful people, masters of adaptation.”
Sea ice limits vessel access to the High Arctic
Both voyages operate aboard Le Commandant Charcot, the world’s only luxury icebreaker. Its PC2 polar-class hull and hybrid electric and liquefied natural gas propulsion allow the ship to access Greenland’s High Arctic coast in spring, when sea ice keeps those waters closed to conventional vessels.
The two itineraries both depart and return to Nuuk:
- “Encounter with the Last Guardians of the North Pole”, 4–16 April 2027, 13 days/12 nights, from AU$27,310 per person
- “Beyond the Inhabited World” (also in partnership with The Explorers Club), 16–28 April 2027, 13 days/12 nights, from AU$32,951 per person
The sailings can be booked back-to-back, with a 10 per cent reduction applied to the first cruise fare only, excluding port taxes and subject to availability
For new bookings made before 31 May 2026, PONANT EXPLORATIONS’ Serenity Policy applies, allowing free modification or postponement to another departure in the same year or earlier. Full terms and conditions apply.
