Viking has taken delivery of its newest European river ship, Viking Dagur, as the cruise line continues to expand its award-winning fleet of Viking Longships.
Built at the Meyer Neptun Werft shipyard in Rostock-Warnemünde, Germany, the 190-guest vessel will operate some of Viking’s most popular itineraries across the Rhine, Main and Danube rivers.
Leah Talactac, President and CEO of Viking, said the new ship represented another milestone in the company’s ongoing fleet expansion.
“We are proud to welcome the Viking Dagur to our award-winning river fleet,” Talactac said.
“The arrival of our newest river ship marks another important milestone as we continue to expand opportunities for curious travellers to explore the world in Viking comfort.”
Scandinavian design meets river cruising
Accommodating 190 guests across 95 staterooms, Viking Dagur features the cruise line’s signature Scandinavian-inspired design alongside several of its hallmark innovations.
These include Viking’s patented square bow, allowing for three full passenger decks, the indoor-outdoor Aquavit Terrace and the brand’s asymmetric corridor layout, which creates true two-room suites.
The vessel will sail a range of established European itineraries including Rhine Getaway, Paris to the Swiss Alps, Christmas on the Rhine and Christmas on the Rhine & Moselle.
Fleet expansion continues
The delivery of Viking Dagur forms part of Viking’s long-term fleet growth strategy.
The company currently expects to take delivery of 21 additional river ships by 2028, alongside nine new ocean ships and two expedition vessels by 2031.
Once these orders are complete, Viking’s fleet will comprise 114 river ships and 26 ocean and expedition vessels.
